When I first moved to Nashville almost 4 years ago, I, pardon the pun, "dived" into the LIVE music scene immediately. I went out 3-4 nights a week. I couldn't get enough of it. I think we all develop "talent crushes" on people who can do what we wished we could, and I was crushin' all over Nashville.
The talent pool here is incredible. And somehow, I got swept into a circle of these talented people to where I can call them my friends. I'm very proud of my talented friends. (My untalented friends can be a bit embarrassing, but I still love them ;) Just kidding!
When I saw the opportunity to wrangle some of my singer/songwriter friends in support of one of my DYP Campaigns, I couldn't wait. I enjoy watching people shine. It's a big part of DYP and LIVE • DEEPER. That's why we're producing this Songwriters Night benefiting Place of Hope on Feb. 8th in partnership with 12th Street Management and Chelsea Kempchinsky.
Mike Coupe, the director of POH, pastors a church in Nashville catering to the homeless community. He drives around Nashville on Sunday mornings, picking up the homeless and bringing them to his warehouse church. He's a remarkable guy.
Inside this industrial, unassuming warehouse, is a room that seats 100 people. They've remodeled the room for great acoustics, and this is where we will be hosting our songwriters night. I'm very excited! Mike will be bringing 25 residents and staff members from his rehabilitation center and halfway house in Columbia, TN. I will be filling the rest of the audience with DYP patrons. Our goal is to put on one "heckuva" celebration for these residents. I have no doubt they will be thrilled with Mason Douglas, Billy Dawson, Shay Watson and Brittany Kennell. These are the performers and they are awesome. And Mike Coupe is even going to hop on stage for the round.
I set up an Indiegogo page where you can buy tickets. They're only $5. All that money will go to POH. I set the ticket price low because I want anyone to be able to attend who's excited about celebrating with DYP and POH and making this night special for the residents. If you missed the 30 day campaign for POH and would like to donate more than $5, you can specify your donation amount when you check out as you buy your tickets. If you can't attend the show, but would still like to support POH, there's an option to "Be there IN SPIRIT" and you can donate that way. In the future, DYP/LIVE DEEPER EVENT tickets may increase in price as we build a following and wish to raise more funds for great causes, but this songwriters night is about the residents. It's about making that night such a joy for them that they get to take their minds off of the hard work they're doing at Place of Hope in their recovery process.
If you live in Nashville, you've probably been to dozens of songwriter rounds, and you've probably been to a few charity concerts as well. My goal is to make this one a little different. If you can attend, you'll be there WITH the people you're helping. Side by side. Enjoying great music. I really hope you can make it.
