What is LIVE DEEPER™?
That's me scuba diving in the British Virgin Islands. That's where it all started. LIVE DEEPER™. It was a slogan for my dive business. But then it became more.
I leveraged the business to raise money for causes. People who weren't divers were drawn to the slogan as much as my diver friends. It meant more than diving. People could see how they could live deeper in their own lives in their own ways. And that's when it became a motto instead of a slogan, at least for me personally.
I floundered a bit trying to figure out what to do with it. Tried to launch a LIVE DEEPER™ MOVEMENT. Tried to get 100,000 people to commit to living deeper as part of a crowdfunding campaign---63 wound up doing it. My intentions were good, but there were some details that were off. It felt like Will Ferrell in Old School trying to get everybody to go streaking with him only to turn around and see nobody was following.
It definitely felt like a failure.
But as I get older, I'm seeing how much I do things for the approval of others, or maybe how I do things with good intentions and for the good of others but then I realize how much I'm influenced/discouraged by people's reactions. I'm trying to shift away from that, purify my intent, and move forward with what I believe is true and right. If others join in, great.
So for now, I'm done trying to overtly motivate people. I still want to motivate and inspire to be better, but I'm focusing on doing that by example. Man in The Mirror Style. I'm trying to LIVE DEEPER™. I'll make mistakes along the way. I'll have some successes. If this resonates with you, that's awesome. Please reach out and tell me. Tell me how you're living deeper. All the little things. All the big things. If we all live a little deeper, I think we can make some big changes in ourselves and in our world.
This blog is going to document what I'm doing, what I'm seeing, what I'm hearing. Some posts will seem random. Some posts will be intentionally KIDLIT since that's one of my main pursuits right now. I'm cooking up a KIDLIT podcast and this will be it's home. I have another podcast I co-host called Floods of Justice where we tackle social justice issues from a Biblical perspective. I will share that here as well. They are important conversations, and it's all about living deeper.
Then again, isn't that really what life is all about?
